Spelling Bee Hive works inside AI assistants that support the Model Context Protocol (MCP), including ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot and Cursor. Connect it once and the assistant can check a spelling, give a word's pronunciation, meaning and language of origin, and quiz a speller on practice words from nine difficulty levels, the way a spelling bee pronouncer would.
The server address is https://www.spellingbeehive.com/mcp. It is free and needs no account or key. It only reads the same word lists anyone can see on this site, so it can never see or change a learner's account.
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector and paste the address. In ChatGPT, turn on developer mode in the connector settings and create a connector with it. In VS Code with GitHub Copilot, in Cursor or in Claude Code, add it as an HTTP MCP server.
Five tools are included: look_up_word for a word's spelling, pronunciation, definitions, origin, difficulty and spelling bee history; practice_words for a round of words at a chosen level; winning_words for the winning words of past bees; words_of_the_year for each dictionary's Word of the Year; and trending_words for words people are looking up now.
